Big oil company propaganda which has a heart! Just the free movie we want for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one of the most lyrical American films ever produced. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation within the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress to be "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of a Cajun boy and his awesome family, living around the bayous in a way of life that individuals can barely imagine.

The boy's family rents land for the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything much like it was, clean and unspoiled apart from the family includes a little more money. (Yes, it absolutely was funded with the Standard Oil Company.)

The boy spends the majority of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating over the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, together with his pet raccoon. He never wears a life preserver or shoes... doesn't actually have a cell phone to call in case he gets struggling. First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever made. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died convinced that the last copy have been destroyed. In a bit of weirdness that sounds more like a movie compared to the truth, a nearly complete print is discovered in 1981 in a very janitor's closet of an Norwegian mental institution.
