Unlike Halloween (that I offered that you simply list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving takes a different twist. Neither is likely to be specific to Thanksgiving, nonetheless they relate to some themes from the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving or for any day from the year.

Big oil company propaganda which has a heart! Just the free movie we want for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one of the most lyrical American films ever produced. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation within the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress to be "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of a Cajun boy and his awesome family, living around the bayous in a way of life that individuals can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land for the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything much like it was, clean and unspoiled apart from the family includes a little more money. (Yes, it absolutely was funded with the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends the majority of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating over the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, together with his pet raccoon. He never wears a life preserver or shoes... doesn't actually have a cell phone to call in case he gets struggling. There is not much story, simply a celebration (in these stunning black and white photography that you may well wonder what the big deal is around color) of the way of life that is certainly no longer along with us.
All with the actors were amateurs, and for most, this is their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who unquestionably boy, was living in a FEMA trailer along with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their house. (source). He had a possibility at fame within the movies, but that he stayed where he was from and apparently grew up with an appreciation of family (a wedding of over fifty years) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story an appropriate free movie for starters of our most family-friendly holidays.

A grayscale silent film that ends using a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, exactly what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have 3 good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc within this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever made. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died convinced that the last copy have been destroyed. In a bit of weirdness that sounds more like a movie compared to the truth, a nearly complete print is discovered in 1981 in a very janitor's closet of an Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful we can watch this magnificent film, on many lists with the greatest films in recent history, free of charge online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered a difficult breakdown in the making of the film, and he or she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, declared Falconetti's performance "may function as the finest performance ever concerning film."
